Vets build up community on Veteran's Day

Rapid City, (KEVN-TV) Veterans may not be in the service anymore, but many are still serving our country in other ways.

Wednesday, a group of 15 veterans and active duty military, teamed up with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity.
They were lending a hand, building a new home in North Rapid City for a veteran in need of help.
And, it's a way for these heroes to continue giving back to the country they once fought for.

John Schencke, Project Manager with Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity and Veteran said, "It feels good to be honest with you. You'll ask most veterans, and they feel good about doing something. It's basic commitment, you know, you learn as you go through the military, that it's all about commitment and working with each other, and sometimes it's almost worse to sit around and do nothing and we feel comfortable supporting somebody and one of our own."

The home is expected to be finished just in time for Christmas.
