Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has announced plans to campaign in western South Dakota on Thursday.
Sanders is scheduled to appear in Pine Ridge on Thursday morning. Doors open for the "Pine Ridge Reservation Community Meeting with Bernie Sanders" in the New Gym at Pine Ridge School at 8:45 a.m.
The event is free and open to the public; however, campaign officials encourage people to RSVP as admission is first come, first served.
Sanders is set to be in Rapid City Thursday afternoon for "A Future to Believe in Rapid City Rally" at Memorial Park. The public entrance will be through the Omaha Street entrance to the park and will open at noon. This event is also free and first come, first served.
Sanders' campaign says for security reasons do not bring bags and limit what you bring to small, personal items like keys and cell phones. Weapons, sharp objects, chairs and signs or banners on sticks will not be allowed.
"We are excited to welcome Senator Bernie Sanders to South Dakota. I think he'll find an active, enthusiastic group of progressives ready to fight on behalf of our shared values this fall—open and transparent government that serves the people over special interests, access to quality education and affordable health care," said Suzanne Jones Pranger, executive director of the South Dakota Democratic Party.
