Walton-Blanden headed to Gillette College

The lone West River boys basketball player to be named first-team all-state this season has decided to chase his goal of playing Division I basketball with a stop at Gillette College.

Walton-Blanden was a three-year starter for the Cobblers and averaged 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds per game, 2.9 assists and nearly two steals per game this season as the Cobblers reached the Class AA semifinals.

He said the presence of former Stevens guard Mason Archambault in Gillette, and the Pronghorns record of developing Division I talent as factors in his decision.

Gillette finished last season with a 27-5 record but was upset in the Region 9 tournament after going to the National Junior College Tournament three straight seasons.
