There was a huge Black Hills Conference girls basketball game tonight as the No. 4-ranked Class A Belle Fourche Broncs traveled to St. Thomas More ... the Broncs defeated the Cavaliers in the regular season in Belle Fourche last season ... but More went on to win its fifth straight state title in March. Belle Fourche entered the game with a 13-1 record and ranked fourth in the state while More is 10-3 after a big comeback win in Sturgis last week.

Over to Carold Heier Gymnasium where the No. 5-ranked Stevens Raiders were taking on Douglas in girls basketball ... The Raiders get things started right off the bat as Kyah Watson drains a deep triple ... one of two the University of South Dakota commit hit in the opening quarter ... The Patriots bounce back with a little defensive effort as Jordynn Tolliver picks off this pass and takes it coast to coast for the layup ... Patriots hoping to hang around with the deeper Raiders ... Next up it's Stevens senior Elizabeth Schaefer with the strong drive and the pull-up jumper ... plus the foul ... the Raiders were out to an early 8-2 lead ... Here Tolliver finds Lamara Castaneda who is just inside the arc and knocks down the long 2-point jumper ... The Raiders coming right back at the Pats as freshman Jayda McNabb finds senior Cameron Karley in the corner for 3 ... And then it's sophomore Kenadi Rising with the nice move to her right and the sweet scoop off the glass ... Stevens rolled in this one by a final of 66 to 36 ...

And in high school wrestling action tonight ... the Central Cobblers hammered Campbell County in a dual and Sturgis topped Douglas by a score of

In boys high school basketball action, the Little Wound boys and head coach Mackenzie Casey picked up a big win over the No. 4-ranked team in the state ... and Casey's alma mater ... Red Cloud Pine Ridge also won tonight, taking a 92-64 decision off of St. Francis ... and New Underwood topped Philip by a final of 48 to 42

And Bennett County topped Kadoka 54 to 46 ... in other girls action Bison defeated Oelrichs and Lead-Deadwood topped Spearfish 42 to 37 in Black Hills Conference action.

Regardless of what happens the rest of the season, two of the biggest basketball games of the season for Rapid City fans are the annual matchups between the Central Cobblers and Stevens Raiders, which always bring a big crowd and bragging rights to the table ...

This year's games won't be any different as the Raiders host the Cobblers in their first meetings of the season this week. The Central girls enter the matchup against the No. 5-ranked Raiders having lost four of their last five ... but they had their chances to win all but one of those games late. They know that execution and taming of nerves will be key Thursday night at Carold Heier Gymnasium.

Blomme said, "Very athletic and they get up and down .... Kyah Watson is a very good playmaker for them and is going to have the ball in her hands a lot, definitely a good anchor for them to fall back on in tough situations. They're athletic and they play hard, it's going to be a fun game." Jones said, "It puts a lot of pressure on everyone because a lot of people come and watch because it's a full gym, so mostly it's just nerves for all the girls and going out one mistake hurts because everyone is watching ... so we just need to get past that, otherwise it's fine. They're not bad, other than that they're just like any other game."

The girls will play Thursday night at 7 o'clock at Stevens ... the boys game will be played at 7 on Friday night.

The Rapid City Rush dropped a 3-2 decision to Kansas City tonight ... the Rush got goals from Cedric Montminy and Chris Liebinger ... but three goals in the second period by the Mavericks were the difference. Jordan Ernst, Corey Durocher and Jared VanWormer each scored for Kansas City ... The Rush are off until Friday night when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Cyclones ...
