Both the Sturgis Scoopers and Hill City Rangers girls basketball teams have had solid starts to their 2018-19 seasons ... and they each looked to keep it going tonight with a Black Hills Conference battle in Hill City ...

Up to Hill City we go and they brought out all the fans and cheerleaders for this one ... We start things off in the first quarter with Ranger freshman Whitney Edwards with the great take from the top of the key and the score ... great footwork and touch there Rangers look to have a very talented ninth-grader in Edwards ... And then Edwards hits the trailing triple off the feed from Kadyn Comer ... Rangers up 7-0 off the bat in this one ... More from Comer and Edwards as Edwards doesn't use the pick and heads baseline with the sweet floater for 2 ... Hill City up 9-0 ... After an old-fashioned 3-point play, Sturgis junior Sarah Janz steps out and knocks down the perimeter 3 ... Scoopers down 9-6 ... And then Janz finds Cassidy Jorensen for another triple ... Here's Hill City's Karlee Simmons making the steal and heading the other way with the jump stop and the bucket ... Hill City led this one 17-11 at the end of 1 but Sturgis goes on to win by a final of 53 to 44 ...

Pine Ridge knocked off Little Wound in an intratribal game 86 to 63 and Winner nipped Todd County 75 to 68 ... {TAKE THIRD} On the girls' side, Belle Fourche bounced back from its first loss of the season with a 59 to 35 win over rival Lead-Deadwood in Black Hills Conference action ... 7. We start things off at No. 7 with the Rapid City Rush hosting Florida and Chris Liebinger rockets one into the net as the Rush dropped the Everblades 3-2 in their first meeting ... 6. At No. 6 it's Rapid City Central taking on Sioux Falls Roosevelt and the Cobblers' Jordon Heckert showing off the Dirk Nowitzki fadeaway ... that is an impressive shot by the Central sophomore guard as the Cobblers snap a three-game losing streak with a 69-41 victory over the Rough Riders ... At No. 5 it's the Cobbler boys against Roosevelt and Central's Kohl Meisman erases this shot by the Rough Riders' Adam Kusler after Kusler had grabbed his own rebound ... but Kusler and the Rough Riders had the final word as they topped the Cobblers in a thriller 58-56 in overtime ... At No. 4 it's more Central boys, this time against O'Gorman and Micah Swallow and Robbie Weber work the two-man game to perfection as Weber slips a screen and Swallow finds him with a perfect pass but the Cobblers fell in this one 67 to 38 ... At No. 3 it's Stevens guard Dylan Pourier showing off some moves against O'Gorman ... as he gets into the paint and flips up a circus shot with just the right spin and touch ... but the Knights picked up their fifth straight win as the the Raiders have dropped three of their last four ... At No. 2 it's St. Thomas More's Ryder Kirsch with a steal against Lead-Deadwood and then he and Caden Casey pass it back and forth before Kirsch finishes with a reverse lay-in in a Cavalier victory ... Kirsch also had 23 points and 15 rebounds Saturday in a 58-54 loss to No. 1-ranked Tea Area. And at No. 1 it's more Pourier as the Stevens guard picks up a steal and heads the other way for the hammer against Douglas ... the Raiders dropped the Patriots 71 to 28 to win this one.
