The South Dakota American Legion Region 3A Tournament gets going tomorrow night in Sturgis as Rapid City Post 22, Rapid City Post 320 and Mitchell will travel to Strong Field to try to earn a berth in the state tournament in Pierre, which begins August 1st.
Mitchell comes into the tournament at 25-22 and will play Post 320 at 5 p.m. in the opening game. Top-seeded Post 22 will play the home team Post 33 in the second game of the night.
Usually Pierre plays in the tournament but Post 8 gets an automatic berth into the state tournament as the host this year.
Head coach Kelvin Torve said the Hardhats are ready after some tough tournaments already this season.
Torve said, "You know we had the Creighton Prep Tournament and those were good teams. Then we had the Firecracker where we went 5-1 and got beat by a D-I pitcher in the last game and then the Gopher ... and all of that is a building process to get to the regions and the state tournament. And so we've acquitted ourselves well in all of those and I expect us to acquit ourselves well in these tournaments as well."
Post 22 is a heavy region favorite once again as it is 5-0 against its region opponents this season after outscoring Sturgis, 320 and Mitchell 75-24.
The Hardhats are 13-1 against all South Dakota competition this year, with their lone loss coming in their final game of the season against Sioux Falls Post 15 East.
