It was a busy night for Legion baseball as both Rapid City Post 22 and Post 320 are hosting tournaments this weekend. The Hardhats are hosting the Veterans Classic and were playing the Billings Royals, coming off of a 15-0 win over the Stars last night and Post 320 was looking to bounce back from that loss against Casper.
Over to Fitzgerald Stadium first and they had a pretty good crowd tonight.
We start things off with Post 22's Cooper Bowman at the plate and it took the Hardhats a couple of innings to figure out Billings starter Brooks Zimmer, who sits Bowman down looking.
Post 22's Jack Sorensen gets an infield single off of Zimmer ... putting runners on the corners with Connor King at third but nothing comes of it for the Hardhats.
Billings' Dawson Smith makes good contact off of Post 22 starter Zach Chiolis but first baseman Jace Caldwell plays it perfectly to get the out.
A little later, Chiolis picks up a strikeout, one of four in four innings of work for him.
Chiolis then gets Cade Torgerson to ground into a fielder's choice to the ever reliable Cooper Bowman to end this inning.
But in the third, the Royals' Carson Klompien takes this Chiolis pitch the opposite way to the wall in right-center for a triple that drives in Michael Morehead to make it 1-0.
But the Hardhats got the bats going with 10 hits over the final three innings as they take this one by a final of 9-5.
Over to Pete Lien Field as the Stars look to bounce back from their loss to the Royals last night.
And this pitch gets away from the Casper catcher, allowing Camden Nayman to advance to third base .
That allows this deep fly ball to left field from Jaden Heintzmann to score Nayman as the Stars take the 9-0 lead.
Later, JT Kostenbauer was pitching well for Rapid City early, here he fans the Casper batter.
And he follows that up with a ground ball to Ian Krump at short and Krump manages to get the throw to first in time.
Post 320 goes on to win this one by a score of 9-0.
And in Expedition League action tonight at Hyde Field in Pierre, Zane Phelps went 2-for-4 with two home runs and six RBI's to lead the Trappers to a 14-4 win over the Spearfish Sasquatch in the first of a three-game series the two teams will play in Pierre this weekend.
Former Post 320 standout Seth Brewer got the win on the mound for Pierre as he allowed two runs and struck out eight in seven innings of work.
