Sioux Falls Lincoln leads after Day 2 of state tennis

It was Day 2 of the South Dakota boys state high school tennis championships and Rapid City Stevens once again finds itself right in the thick of things.

And we start things off with Flight 1 doubles in what may end up being the match of the day as No. 5-seeded Rapid City Stevens' Jamison Pfingston and Jackson Ellis squared off with fourth-seeded Sioux Falls Washington's Tory Shafer and Chris Harris. The Washington duo gets a big final-set point here as an Ellis shot goes long.

But Washington's Shafer couldn't handle this Pfingston serve and the Raiders go on to win this match in three sets 2-6, 6-2, 10-8 to advance to the semifinals, where they lost to O'Gorman 6-1, 6-1.

Over to third flight doubles and Stevens' Michael Tang and Ty Studer taking on the Harrisburg seventh-grade duo of Isaac Donelan and Alexander Lupu and Lupu pulls out a great return here down the line.

A little later and Donelan and Studer exchange volleys at the net before Studer scores with a nicely placed shot as the Raiders were in full control as they went on to win this one by a score of 6-0, 6-0 before defeating Roosevelt's team to reach tomorrow's finals.

Last up we've got Stevens' Ben Anderson and Dawson Segrist taking on STM's Will Raymond and Jake Berzina, and Segrist pounces all over this return as the Raiders went on to win 6-1, 6-0 before falling in the semis 6-4, 6-4 to Mitchell.

At the end of the second day Sioux Falls Lincoln leads Stevens 470 to 439 for first place in the team standings followed by Mitchell, Roosevelt and O'Gorman.

Roncalli, Brandon Valley, Washington, Yankton and Aberdeen Central round out the top 10.

St. Thomas More is in 11th with 188 points, Rapid City Christian is 16th with 116 and Rapid City Central is 19th with 22 points.
