SDSU hires former Minnesota standout to lead wrestling program

In college wrestling news, the South Dakota State wrestling program has tabbed a former University of Minnesota standout to replace departed head coach Chris Bono.

Damion Hahn, who helped build Cornell into a national power over the past decade, has been hired to lead the Jackrabbits' wrestling program.

Hahn spent 12 years as an assistant coach and associate head coach at Cornell in Ithaca, New York.

Hahn won NCAA individual national titles as a junior and senior at Minnesota and was a four-time All-American.

He takes over a Jackrabbit program on the rise under former head coach Chris Bono as Seth Gross won an individual national title at 133 pounds, and David Kocer and Luke Zilverberg also earned All-America honors.

Former Rapid City Central standout Martin Mueller will be a junior next year after finishing his sophomore season at South Dakota State with a 23-8 record at 184 pounds.

Bono left Brookings to take over the University of Wisconsin program.
