'Rockers gear up for Homecoming

It is M Week as the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology celebrates its homecoming and while that is always an exciting week around the Rapid City campus, this year's Hardrocker football team is adding a little more than usual as it sits at 1-1 after a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference tilts against Colorado Mesa and Western State.

The Hardrockers fell in Week 1 to a Mesa team that is expected to compete for a conference title by a score of 36-33 before knocking off Western 38-21 last weekend.

Mines has gone 5-6 in each of head coach Zach Tinker's first two seasons at the helm but if the Hardrockers' first two games of the season are any indication, this team is ready to play with whomever is in front of it on a given Saturday.

The 'Rockers play Simon Fraser out of British Columbia, Canada this weekend and while it's a non-conference game, Tinker says he expects his team to be ready to go.

Tinker said, "We want to play everybody with our best effort ... you know we want to give everybody our best shot. What we want to do is have other teams respect playing us. To say man, it's a big week when we play the Hardrockers. Because to us it's a big game. If we're involved, we think its a huge game. And that's what we say, if it says Hardrockers on the marquee, it's a big game and you should come check it out ... and we expect another big game Saturday night."

Kickoff is scheduled for 5 o'clock Saturday night at O'Harra Stadium.
