It will be a big weekend for local BMX riders and fans as the Rapid City BMX Association is holding three days worth of racing and qualifying as a way of cutting the ribbon on their brand-new facility at Robbinsdale Park.
The new track has been open since May and was designed by Olympic track builder Tom Ritz.
Rapid City BMX is hosting a State Championship and Gold Cup Qualifier weekend beginning Friday and running through Sunday.
Last year, the event saw more than 500 riders from around the country participate and with the new facility the organization is expecting an even bigger crowd this year.
The schedule includes a ribbon-cutting and pro-am race with almost $1,000 dollars in prize money on Friday night starting at 6 p.m. Saturday will have a state qualifier triple-point race at 10 a.m. and another pro-am race and Sunday will have the Gold Cup qualifier at 10 a.m. with races continuing through the evening.
