Raiders top Harrisburg in state title rematch

The Stevens Raiders came up one match short of a state volleyball championship last season. Today they faced the team that beat them for the first time since that loss as they hosted the East-West Invitational with Harrisburg, Yankton and Spearfish.

Over to Carold Heier Gymnasium where the 23-1 Raiders were looking for at least some small measure of revenge against Harrisburg ...

Kyah Watson serving for the Raiders ... and Harrisburg senior Lucy Hartman hammers this one at Marlee Schneider who doesn't stand much of a chance there ... point to the Tigers ...

Later in the first set and Harrisburg's Abby Meister handles the tough serve from Laura Petik ... and then Meister comes back and hammers home a kill from the back row ...

Tigers playing well but the Raiders are not easily rattled with their big-match experience ...

Stevens comes back with a nice point here as Watson digs one up ... Schneider sets it to the left side and Elizabeth Schaefer shows off the touch with a delicately placed kill for the score ...

The Raiders' Carley Buehner takes advantage of a nice serve by Emily Sobczak here with the easy block ...

And then Buehner stuffs a kill on the right side ... so the Tigers try the left and Watson is having none of it as she puts the block down for the score ... and the Raiders roll in this one ... 25-14 and 25-13 ... Stevens also dropped Yankton on the day ...

Across town to Central as the Cobblers took on the Arrows from Watertown.

Watertown serving in the first set Cobblers Ramsey Deming sets it up for Addison Young who powers it to the floor.. Cobblers down by two points

Watertown trying to catch the Cobblers off guard but they set up Ali Weber for another Cobbler kill. Cobblers still trailing though.

Cobbler Reese Estus tries for the kill but the Arrows dig it out. Arrows return the ball and Central goes back to the left side and Young again buries it in the corner for the Central point.

Cobblers now serving Libero Abbie Freeman is able to find a soft spot in the Arrows and picks up the ace but the Cobblers drop the first set......

and lost in two 25-20 and 25-19 ... the Cobblers alos lost to Brookings on the day and defeated Brandon Valley ... play continues at Stevens and Central tomorrow ...
