Post 22 wins season opener

Over to a beautiful evening at Fitzgerald Stadium for the Roughriders and Post 22.

We start things off with Post 22 down 4-0 and pitcher Dylan Richey in a bases-loaded jam in the fifth, but Richey fans the last two batters of the inning to limit the damage. Richey went four innings in relief, striking out five and allowing one run.

Here Post 22's Alex Weaver breaks up the Gillette no-hitter with a single to center field in the bottom of the fifth, the first base hit of the season for the Hardhats.

Then Matthew Hegre follows Weaver with an opposite field single to right to put runners on the corners for Ryan Schmidt.

And Schmidt gets a hold of one and sends it to the wall in left for the 2-run double to get Post 22 on the board.

The Hardhats are looking for more here with Cooper Bowman at the plate, but Schmidt gets picked off by Hayden Sylte at second to end the inning.

And then Hegre shows the defensive skills off at third with a nice play here to get the out.

Post 22 went on to win 5-4 in 12 innings on a Gillette error that allowed Weaver to score the winning run.
