Post 22 beats Sturgis for 10th win

The Rapid City Post 22 baseball program has welcomed new coach Kelvin Torve to the job with a 9-3 record through the early part of the season and the Hardhats were looking to get Torve win No. 10 tonight as they headed up I-90 to take on Sturgis.

Out to Strong Field we go as the Titans and Hardhats were both hoping the weather would hold off long enough for them to get a game in.

We start things off in the bottom of the third inning and a man on first for Sturgis's Brian Duran and Duran pokes this one out to left center for a double to put runners on second and third. Post 22's Alex Weaver gave it all he had there but just couldn't quite make the play.

That brings up Titans outfielder David Anderson who chops one back to Post 22 starter Zach Whitesell, who gets the out at first but some heads-up baserunning by Sturgis's Covey Ulmer puts the Titans up 1-0.

To the top of the fourth we go now and Post 22's Zach Sumption rips a pitch to left to drive in Connor King and tie the game.

And here it's all-stater Cooper Bowman taking what the pitcher gives him and this is a seeing-eye single into right that scores Sumption to give Post 22 a 2-1 lead.

Bowman ended the day 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored as Post 22 moved to 10-3 on the season with the 12-1 six-inning win. Whitesell picked up the win on the mound, going five innings and giving up an unearned run .
