Pierre Govs edges pass Stevens Raiders for fourth state wrestling title

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Pierre T.F. Riggs Governors are once again the Class A State wrestling champs.

Rapid City Stevens was close, but fell short by 1.5 points. Pierre scored 159 for team points while the Raiders scored 157.5. Sturgis racked in a total of 113.5 points and Rapid City Central scored 109.5.

For Class B , Canton was the heavy favorites and lived up to expectations taking the state title with a total of 165.0 points. Winner came in second with 111.5, Howard placed third 96.5, and Philip finished in fourth with 96.5

Sturgis finished in third and Rapid City Central finished in fourth.

Quick recap from Saturday night

- At 132 pounds...William Turman of Pierre looked to keep rolling as he took on Rapid City's Spencer Stockman, they both get reversals, but it's Truman winning the title 4-2.

- At 220 pounds, Sturgis Joel Carpenter had the lead, but Vermillion's Brody Surrell battles back and gets the second-round pin!

For Class B

- At 160- pounds where Gannon Martinmaas of Faulkton Area is trying to break free from Canton's Shaeden Scheidt, but he can't and it's Scheidt getting the 3--point near fall and advancing with a 9-0 decision....

- At 106, Cantons Braden Sehr gets two points and wins in a tiebreaker over Winner's Kaiden Keiser. And Sehr is pumped up after winning a state title.
