The Lakota Nation Invitational basketball tournament is one of the area's top sporting events every year, so it's little surprise that it made its presence felt in this week's plays of the week ... but it wasn't all LNI action as a little hockey and other area basketball made its way into ...
FOX's Finest.

The Rapid City Central girls basketball team finished eighth at last year's Class AA state tournament and returned a good chunk of that team .... The Cobblers have compiled a 3-2 record through the early portion of their schedule and look to pick up another win when they travel to Douglas tomorrow night ...

While Central had to replace the production of guard Bailey Johnson from last year, head coach Kraig Blomme said he likes what he's seen from the younger players who have moved up to the varsity ... while some of his returning players have shown solid improvement from last year.

The Lakota Nation Invitational last week caused a bit of a shakeup in this week's South Dakota Media Prep Basketball Polls ... but the No. 1-ranked squad in five of the six classes stayed the same. The only change came in Class AA girls where some of the voters apparently held Sioux Falls O'Gorman's loss to nationally-ranked Hopkins, Minnesota against the Knights, dropping them to No. 2 behind new No. 1 Brandon Valley this week. The Todd County girls moved into the top five in Class A on the strength of their Lakota Nation Invitational win ... the White River boys stayed at No. 3 in Class B ... and Pine Ridge and Red Cloud dropped to fourth and fifth, respectively, in the Class A boys ranks behind St. Thomas More at three. The Stevens boys dropped to fourth this week in Class AA, while the Raider girls moved up to No. 5 on the girls' side. The St. Thomas More girls remained No. 1 in Class A after wins over a pair of Nebraska teams in Alliance and Crofton.

Black Hills State guard Tyler Oliver was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 ppg, 10.5 rpg, and 4.0 apg over two games. In Sunday's overtime win over Fort Lewis, he scored a game-high 21 points, while also pulling down nine boards, and dishing out two assists. BH is tied for first in the RMAC with a 5-0 league record.
