The first round of the Black Hills State-South Dakota School of Mines basketball rivalry will be fought Saturday night on the Hardrockers' home floor as the men and women will play a doubleheader beginning at 5:30.
The Yellow Jackets come into the game with a perfect 4-0 record and a No. 13 ranking in the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II poll.
Mines head coach Ryan Larsen says the hype surrounding the Yellow Jackets is well deserved ... as he fully anticipated them being the top team in the conference this season.
The Hardrockers enter the game 2-1 after winning two straight against Montana State Billings and Dakota State.
Larsen said, "I've really got to believe that talent-wise and experience-wise BH is returning a lot and they're going to be very, very good. But we're excited to play them but that's who I'm kind of looking at and I did vote them No. 1, credit to those guys."
The women will tip on Barb Felderman Court at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men's game at approximately 7:30, depending on the duration of the women's game. The Mines men enter the game having lost five in a row after two wins to open the season. The Black Hills State men come in with a 1-3 record.
