Region 4A golfers took to beautiful Belle Fourche today to crown a region team and individual champion and finalize flighting for the state tournament.
Out to an absolutely beautiful day at the Belle Fourche Country Club and we start things off with Black Hills Conference champion Jade Burr of Belle Fourche on the ninth hole, and Burr hits a pretty much flawless fairway bunker shot here to set up a birdie opportunity. She would come away with a par on her way to an 84.
Here Burr's teammate Payson Birkeland hits a nice chip shot and she would shoot a 78 to take second in the individual race.
Also on No. 9, Hot Springs' Mallory Oster judges the line and speed on this left to right putt just right as she knocks it down and gets a high five from playing partner Birkeland.
And we close things up with the region champion, St. Thomas More's Alex Kandolin, who shot a 34 on her front nine on her way to a score of 74 to win the title.
"I just played really well on the front. I was just kind of relaxed, almost, I scrambled really well," Kandolin said. "I got up and down a lot which really helped, and I had quite a few birdie chances and a few of those dropped which is always nice."
The hometown Broncs and St. Thomas More tied in the team race at 367 strokes and settled things in a team playoff with the Broncs coming away with the region title by four shots.
The Class A state tournament will be held at Rocky Run Golf Course in Dell Rapids on June 4th and 5th.
