The South Dakota State Gymnastics Meet kicked off today in Brookings with the team championships in Class AA and Class A and the Watertown Arrows knocked off defending AA champ Mitchell 147.225 to 144.500 to win the championship ... it was the Arrows sixth overall team gymnastics title ... all of which have been won since 2006 ... The Arrows were state runner-up to Mitchell last season ... neither Rapid City Stevens or Central qualified for the team event ... In the Class A team race, Deuel repeated as the state champion with 143.625 points to Parkston/Ethan/Hanson at 132.925 ... Hot Springs finished ninth at 122.425 ... The individual events will be held tomorrow at the Swiftel Center ... Stevens' Shay Trimble, who is the top seed in the floor exercise, and Emirra Returns are competing in the Class AA all-around ... while Central's Reece Lowe will compete in the uneven bars and balance beam ...

Out to Hart Ranch we go for the Alliance Bulldogs versus the Christian Comets ... Alliance jumped out to a fast start in this one with Joel Baker knocking down a triple to get things started ... and Comet head coach Kyle Courtney needed a quick timeout to get the troops on the same page ... Christian comes back with Jack Roisum getting the ball in transition and knocking down the 3-ball ... Comets trailed 13-5 at the end of the first quarter ... The Comets' Terrance Asbridge gets good position and takes his time to get a bucket ... Bulldogs the other way and senior guard Mason Hiemstra buries this triple from straightaway .... Alliance senior guard is a nice player ... More Hiemstra here as he finds teammate Trevor DuBray ... and DuBray makes the Comets pay as he knocks down yet another 3 ... Christian's Levi VandenBos with the nice take on Hiemstra and he finishes as he tries to keep the Comets in striking distance ...
