FOX's Finest

From the race track to the baseball diamond, late summer in the Black Hills usually means bikes and baseball ... and it was no exception this week as we revisit the plays of the week that was ... in FOX’s Finest …

4. It was Rally week after all ... so we're not making it out of here without some motorcycle action, here we've got a 4 YEAR OLD named NOVA competing at the Jackpine Gypsies Hill Climb ... AND THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT AS SHE MAKES IT 59 FEET ...
3. Up next we've got the second semifinal's final lap at the American Flat Track races at the Black Hills Speedway ... and Ryan Wells and Daniel Bromley are neck and neck ... and this one was too close to call from where I was sitting but Wells takes the win 11 hundredths of a second in front of Bromley in a great race ...
2. Legion baseball from Dickinson, North Dakota as Rapid City Post 22 loads the bases in the first inning for former Black Hills FOX Sports Athlete of the Week ZACH SUMPTION... and Sumption gets all over this one and it is deep and gone … a grand slam as Post 22 goes up 5-0 in the first inning and goes on to eliminate the hometown Dickinson Rough Riders with a 16-3 win ....

1. And more Central Plains Regional action as an Omaha MILLARD WEST batter cranks a HOT SHOT TO 3RD, but Post 22's MATTHEW HEGRE MAKES THE GREAT DIVING STOP AND HIS THROW TO FIRST IS IN TIME. Post 22 lost twice to eventual champ Dubuque County, Iowa, which became the first Iowa regional champion in 32 years.

The Rapid City Stevens volleyball team is expected to do big things this season after bringing back a good portion of the squad that finished as runner-up to Harrisburg at the Class AA championship last season. Stevens received 14 first-place votes from assorted media around the state to take the top spot in the Class AA poll.

Sioux Falls Washington took the other three first-place votes in AA, followed by O'Gorman, Watertown and Mitchell in the top five. Two-time defending state champ Harrisburg, which beat Stevens last year for the title, is just outside the top five and received the other first-place vote. {TAKE SECOND FULL} Defending Class A champ Sioux Falls Christian took the top spot with 17 first-place votes, followed by Miller with the other first-place nod. Winner and Belle Fourche were the two West River teams that received votes in the A ranks. {TAKE THIRD FULL} In nothing of a surprise, defending Class B champ Northwestern received 17 first-place votes to top the B poll, followed by rival Warner with one first-place vote. The Philip Scotties came in at No. 5 in the Class B poll and Faith received votes.

The high school sports season is upon us and some area golfers took their turn getting started today at beautiful Boulder Canyon Country Club outside of Sturgis ... Stevens, Central, Spearfish and Sturgis teed it up in the Sturgis Invitational hoping to get their 2018 season off to a solid start ...

Players taking a look at the course and probably dealing with a few nerves as the season begins ... 1. ACTION FROM THE PAR FOUR 1ST HOLE, CENTRAL'S ALEX DURAN WITH THE PUTT FOR PAR AND HE SINKS IT. Nice putt for the Cobbler to get things going ... 2. NEXT UP IS SPEARFISH'S ZACH TIPTON, HE HAS THIS PUTT TO GET OUT OF THERE WITH A BOGEY, HE READS IT WELL AND DRAINS IT. 3. CUSTER'S AUSTIN EGGERS DELIVERS WITH THE NICE CHIP SHOT, THIS BALL HOPS ONTO THE GREEN AND ROLLS UP NEAR THE FLAG. EGGERS IN EXCELLENT POSITION. 4. EGGERS WITH THE PUTT FOR PAR AND HE GETS THIS BALL TO DROP HOME. Great up and down for the Custer player there ... 5. STEVENS' NICK SLIPER HAS THE PUTT FOR PAR, THIS BALL BREAKS TOWARDS THE HOLE, BUT IT just didn't have quite enough of the line. SLIPER WAS ABLE TO TAP IN FOR BOGEY. 6. STURGIS' J.D. KESZLER WITH THE PUTT FOR PAR, THIS PUTT LOOKS GOOD BUT RIMS OUT ON HIM. TOUGH BREAK AS KESZLER TAPS IN FOR BOGEY but that's golf.

Defending national champion North Dakota State is atop the Football Championship Subdivision preseason coaches poll. The Bison received 23 of the 26 first-place votes, James Madison is No. 2 and got the other three first-place votes. South Dakota State is third, followed by Sam Houston State and Kennesaw State. It's the same top five as in the media poll released a week ago.
