Douglas Patriots gear up for this football season

With several classes hitting the gridiron last Friday, many of the remaining teams will take the field this weekend, including the 11-Double-A's Douglas Patriots.

Last season the Douglas Patriots surprised a lot of people, getting the win over East River's Yankton - and earning a spot in the playoffs.
This season, Douglas lost a couple seniors, but coach Maciejczak says there's a new wave of leaders this year, and he's excited to see what this team can do.

Dan Maciejczak says, 'We've got 19 returning seniors this year, so that's a great thing. We lost some great seniors, but right now we're just focusing on trying to put everything together minus those seniors. We have a lot of kids coming back, a lot of great things. We lose kids, we gain kids, we're just trying to get that continuity going.'

The Patriots open the season this Friday night against the Huron Tigers. Kick-off time is slated for six o'clock.
We'll have more on the Patriots coming up tomorrow night with this week's Athlete of the Week.
