There's plenty of reason for optimism for the St. Thomas More track and field team as they get ready to chase down another state title.
The girls finished as the co-state champion with Madison last season and the boys were the runner-up to Sioux Falls Christian.
While head coach Scott Benson has some key pieces he'll need to replace on both teams ... he's got some standouts to lean on as they look to develop depth and be ready to challenge at the state meet in Rapid City at the end of the year ...
The STM coach pointed to Bailey Carlson, Haleigh Timmer and Kaci Cooper on the girls' side ... and while the boys lost standouts Jake Aanderud and Luke Julian, senior Ty Trainor feels like other athletes will be ready to step up.
Ty Trainor says, "I see Thomas Raffferty and Spencer Lund out in front at practices, running up the hill, I see them working really hard ... so I know they're going to be there for me on the sprints side if I need them ... and on the distance side, as a group we've all been doing workouts hard, running hard and trying to get back in shape."
More will open the season at the Rapid City Developmental Meet Friday morning at Sioux Park.
