Cavaliers looking to punch ticket to state

The newly renamed SoDak 16 high school volleyball playoffs will be played this week ... with the Class A and B state tournament fields being set tomorrow night and the Class AA field being finalized on Thursday ...

And plenty of local teams are looking to make their way to Sioux Falls for next weekend's state tournament ...

While the Stevens Raiders will be a heavy favorite against Sturgis on Thursday as the No. 1 seed in the Class AA field ... 'A' schools St. Thomas More and Rapid City Christian will be looking to make it to the Premier Center when they clash at Rapid City Central Tuesday night at 7 o'clock.

The Cavaliers enter the contest with a 31-5 record that includes three wins and a loss against the Comets this season ... and the Cavs have won 15 straight to feel like they're peaking at just the right time.

Benson said, "RIGHT NOW THE CHEMISTRY IS GREAT AND A LOT WITH VOLLEYBALL THAT IS SUCH A HUGE THING. WE HAVE HAD OUR UPS AND DOWNS THIS YEAR BUT THEY ARE COMING TOGETHER AT THE RIGHT TIME. AND EVERYBODY IS OUT THERE WORKING FOR EACH OTHER....WELL WE HAVE A LOT OF ATHLETES...WE HAVE A LOT OF GIRLS THAT HAVE BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL IN OTHER SPORTS AND THEY HAVE LEARNED TO PLAY THIS GAME. A LOT OF THEM DON'T HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF EXPERIENCE BUT THEY ARE ATHLETES THEY LIKE TO WIN THEY LIKE TO COMPETE. AND THEY HAVE JUST DONE A GREAT JOB AS A TEAM GETTING IT DONE."

Rapid City Christian, the third seed in the region, knocked off Hot Springs and then No. 2-seeded Hill City to reach the round of 16.
