PIERRE, S.D. (KEVN/KOTA TV) - The South Dakota High School Activities Association might move this year's football championships from the DakotaDome to a stadium in Brookings.
The DakotaDome on the campus of the University of South Dakota will undergo major renovations this year. The renovations likely make the dome unusable during the SDHSAA State Championships, especially the student seating.
The change brings the usable seating within the DakotaDome to approximately 5,200 seats, at a minimum. This does not provide the consideration for any seats lost due to student sections, bands, or complimentary admissions provided to all participating teams and coaches.
The DakotaDome has been used for the SDHSAA State Championships since August 1979.
The SDHSAA board of directors still has to finalize the agreement with South Dakota State University.
The championships would be at SDSU's Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium Nov. 14 and 15.
The SDHSAA board will meet Feb. 27 to discuss this issue. For the meeting agenda on Item 14 and other items, the PDF can be found here.
