The Class A girls golf tournament had a borderline unbelievable finish today as defending champion Kate Wynja of Sioux Falls Christian was disqualified after she signed an incorrect scorecard, which knocked Wynja off the top of the podium individually and cost the Chargers the Class A team title.
Belle Fourche's Payson Birkeland moved into first place with a two-round score of 159 to win the individual state championship and the Broncs also won the team title, moving ahead of Sioux Falls Christian with a total score of 735 as the Chargers fell to 747 without Wynja's score.
Parkston, St. Thomas More and Canton round out the top five in the team race. Hot Springs took seventh. St. Thomas More's Alex Kandolin and Belle Fourche's Jade Burr finished second and third, respectively, in the individual race.
Sioux Falls O'Gorman won the AA crown in Aberdeen by 23 shots over Aberdeen Central.
Yankton, Roosevelt and Brandon Valley rounded out the top five. Stevens was sixth at 731 team strokes. Aberdeen Central's Sydney Wirebaugh shot an 8-over 152 to top O'Gorman's Sophia Salter by four shots for the individual title. The Raiders' Emmy Sundby finished tied for third with Watertown's Megan Dockter and Central's Erin Trohkimoinen and Douglas's Molly Schwartz finished tied for ninth at 166.
Burke/South Central won the girls Class B title by eight shots over Deubrook Area, led by medalist Tressa Bull's 167 and second-place finisher Taylee Indahl's 168.
Great Plains Lutheran won the boys Class B team title by 26 shots over Parker and Aberdeen Christian's Judah Aderhold fired a second-round 69 to win the individual title by two shots over Gregory's J.J. Beck.
