Rapid City Post 22 and Rapid City Post 320 will meet for the second time this season Friday night at Fitzgerald Stadium after the Hardhats took a 21-6 win in their first meeting about a week ago in a game that was actually quite a bit closer than the score appeared.
First-year Post 320 head coach Rich Downs, a former Post 22 player and coach himself, says he's pleased with how his team is progressing and is looking forward to watching it grow as the summer goes on.
And while he would like to see the Stars learn to finish games better, he said all the credit for the first win goes to the Hardhats.
"It's been a lot of fun getting back into it, working with the players, bringing back the old coaching staff that's just been a tremendous amount of fun but if it was easy it probably wouldn't be as much fun," Downs said. "We're working hard and trying to get better and we're moving in the right direction. But hey, they beat us and they took advantage of us the last couple of innings and we didn't stop it so that's on us. Kudos to Post 22, we had a 6-5 lead going into that sixth they tied it up and then took advanatage of things and didn't stop. They took care of things and kudos to them, we've got to get better."
The first pitch Friday night is scheduled for 7 p.m. and the game is serving as a fundraiser for Feeding South Dakota so all fans are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to donate to the cause.
