Athlete of the week: Trevor Tridle

RAPID CITY, SD (KEVN) Trevor Tridle had dreams of playing college football for the Black Hills State Yellow Jackets, when that dream fell short he was introduced to a new team.... the west river powerlifters

Tracey Steinbach says, ' Very quickly though he realized that we were just one big group and kind of a family and starting to see this was his niche"

Powerlifting was Trevor's niche and under the coaching of Tracey and Brett Steinbach, Trevor has become a leader.

Steinbach says, ' It is fun to train someone who wants to do so well."

Trevor did so well that he got invited to join Team USA in the Speical Olympics in Abu Dabi

John Tridle says, ' And then to win the gold in a couple of events, it's pretty heartwarming.'

Trevor had one lift left to secure the gold and he kept the message to himself simple.

Trevor Tridle says,' Time to do my business, and its time to go.'

His parents watching from the stands weren't nearly as calm.

John says, ' Probably me. My wife really.'

Steinbach says, ' It was nerve-wracking.'

Now back home Trevor is glad that he is now a powerlifter

Trevor says, " I'm very thankful that they trained me."

For his trainers seeing the success isn't a surprise.

Steinbach says, " He always came in wanting to do his best, he always pushed himself hard.'

all that effort has made for one proud father.

John says, ' Kind of cool, it's kind of emotional for me.'

But what's next for Trevor?
