Athlete of the week: Cooper McConaghy

By  |

RAPID CITY, SD (KEVN) Lex Heathershaw says, ' In the game Thursday night against Castlewood. He probably had the best game of his career and it was really good to see, he has really been working hard for us.'

Cooper McConaghy is a key part of the high flying Wall Eagles offense.

Heathershaw says, 'Cooper's speed is great, just like a lot of our guys we have great overall team speed. Even guys on our line can get out and run'

The hustle put in by his blockers isn't lost on number #12 either

Cooper McConaghy says, ' It is really nice when you are running downfield, and you have a lineman there blocking with you and running with you at the same time.'

With the Eagles now one game away from the Dome its just talent that has led the team this far.

Heathershaw says, ' All of our guys are pretty humble I think, and that's part of the reason we've been successful this year, show a lot of emotion but in a good way. Good sportsmanship, we have guys who will knock a guy down but then be willing to help him right back up.'

McConaghy will be leaving the nest after this year, but that doesn't mean he won't be passing on wisdom.

McConaghy, 'It's different, everyone looks up to you and you have to be a role model and show them how to put in the work.'

With potentially two games left before this Eagle soars off to new horizons, he still remembers being an eaglet

McConaghy says, ' I can still remember the first games that we played freshman year, it is crazy how fast it goes and how you see seniors go away, new teammates, new people stepping up. It is really cool.'

Good luck to the Wall Eagles in their matchup with Colome, and Congratulations to Connor McConaghy on being this week's athlete of the week. alright, alright, alright. Jeff Voss Black Hills Fox Sports>
