RAPID CITY, SD (KEVN) Kraig Blomme says, ' Well I think anybody would be proud to play the way she plays. With the effort, hustle, and desire. All she wants to do is win out there.'
Juneau Jones is entering her 5th and final year on the Rapid City Central girls varsity basketball team and the growth in her is obvious in her coach.
Bloome says, she was very content to do the small things to rebound, hustle, play great defense. But the last two years she has become a more positive scorer.'
Juneau Jones says, 'Definitely more of an offensive player now. I used to not want to touch the ball and I used to be more defensively and pass the ball.'
Those efforts on the other end of the floor have helped etch Jones' name in the history books.
Bloome says, ' By the end of her junior year she had the school rebounding record. Might get there in steals for a career as well.'
One of the biggest keys to Jones success in those categories? Effort.
Bloome says, ' Any time you have to coach effort its a struggle as a coach, but with her effort is never a problem. So that's a plus.
That effort from Jones is rubbing off on her teammates.
Jones says, ' I feel like they put in a lot of effort too. What I put out they match, they never go below. If I'm going up and down the court, someone is right behind me. They always match what I do.'
Kraig Bloome has coached Jones for 8 years total, and with the senior about to graduate it will take a group to replace number 22
Bloome, ' I mean she's just had an amazing career and I don't think you will replace her, you have to try to build around.'
congratulations to Juneau Jones on being this week's athlete of the week, Jeff Voss Black Hills Fox sports.
