It's a little hard to believe, but the South Dakota State Track and Field Meets will be hitting Spearfish, Sturgis and Rapid City in just over two weeks and area thinclads got one of their final chances to grab a qualifying mark with the Rapid City Qualifier today.
Over at O'Harra Stadium as the weather was a little fickle, with a bit of rain and a bit of sun depending on the minute.
Here Sturgis high jumper Ashlyn Simons clears 5 feet in the finals of the girls high jump to pick up the win.
Next up, another Scooper, Ethan Brenneman chats with a fellow competitor prior to the boys 1600 and then Brenneman finds himself in a battle with Rapid City Christian's Levi Vanden Bos as the Comet runner overtakes Brenneman with 400 meters to go. But Brenneman comes away with the win as he made a move around the 150-meter mark to win the race in a time of 4:37.10 to Vanden Bos's 4:40.54
And finally, we have a couple of Black Hills Conference heavyweights squaring off in the girls 4-by-100 as St. Thomas More and Belle Fourche meet up. And More takes this round with a win in 50.86 seconds over Belle Fourche at 52.38 as Klaire Kirsch anchors the Cavs.
There were four double-event winners on the day as St. Thomas More's Bailey Carlson took home the 100 and 200 meter dashes and Wall's Kyla Sawvell won the shot and disc on the girls' side and More's Jacob Hyde won the boys 100 and 200 and New Underwood's Colton Cogdill won the boys shot and disc titles.
