RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN)- In this week's segment, we look at winning and losing.
Let's face it, we're not going to always win.
So how do we help our kids deal with that?
Roger Gallimore is the Executive Director of the YMCA of Rapid City.
Here's a couple thoughts about the concept that sometimes we win, sometimes we don't.
"Ya know as fathers we have the opportunity to teach our children about winning and losing and I think first of all as fathers, we keep it in perspective," says Roger Gallimore.
"And so, while the child goes through this experience, whether it's in a play or in sports or anything else, or even the test at school, it's a matter of keeping it in perspective. And as fathers that's what we do.
We say, 'Okay, what did we learn from this?', or 'What do we rejoice about in this?'," he explains.
"Because every situation is an opportunity for learning, an opportunity for growing. And, after all that really is the chief aim of all these exercises, whether it's the baseball or football game, or the school play, or anything else, it's just another opportunity for learning to grow," Gallimore says.
