The wife of an Oglala Sioux Tribe police officer who was shot and killed last weekend is now charged with his murder.
Tiffany Janis is charged with second degree murder in the death of Brian Garrett and she made her first appearance in federal court in Rapid City on Wednesday.
Garrett's body was returned to Pine Ridge earlier this week with a police escort.
According to the case laid out in court documents, Janis called tribal police at about four Saturday morning saying she had shot her husband.
That affidavit says Janis told agents Garrett kicked her out of the house and when she returned with her gun, she says she found Garrett having sex with her cousin and that's when she shot him once in the chest.
Janis is set for a preliminary hearing on February 23rd.
