Thursdays on the Square kicks off more progressive season

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The streets were packed in Downtown Rapid City Thursday evening as folks enjoyed the kickoff to the highly anticipated Summer Nights. The weekly festival takes place on 7th Street -- with another weekly event going down at the fountains at Main Street Square.

Main Street Square staff says when planning for this year, the goal was to be more progressive. After getting feedback from the community and giving the event some thought internally, they say folks can definitely expect some new stuff at Main Street Square.

"We're going to see some concerts, we have a dueling piano show which has always been very popular with the community, we're bringing that back, we're having a talent show. and then we're also letting some other organizations use Main Street Square as a platform to host their own events down here and bring awareness to their cause," said Liz Smith from Main Street Square.

For next Thursday on the Square, there will be a Black Hills Top Talent show bringing out the best in local talent. The winner of the talent show will have the chance to open for Kory and the Fireflies on Thursday, June 14.
