Students experience first day of school and new building in Summerset

SUMMERSET, S.D. (KEVN) - The brand new facility located in Summerset has 24 general classrooms in the building teaching grades 5-7 for the 2018-2019 school year. Faculty says it is rewarding to see the energy coming back and shared with us what was happening in the classrooms on Monday.

Kids were coming in the door, all the teachers were out giving high fives and welcoming them to school and so it was a really cool atmosphere and so everybody I think is just excited to be starting the year finally," said David Olson, principal.

"Locker combinations, this is the first time some of these kiddos have ever opened a locker or event done a combination so that's a lot of our morning and really just addressing and going over our rules, our policies, procedures, student handbook, and district policies," said Courtney Pitsor, 7th grade ELA and science teacher.

Faculty at Stagebarn Middle School also say they are happy to be a new addition to the Meade County School District and wish everyone a great school year.
