Students at Black Hawk Elementary were feeling quite festive at their First Day of Winter Concert.
Kindergartners through fifth graders have been practicing for their Christmas program since mid October and performed for their parents and family members on Thursday.
The music teacher says there's a lot of work that goes into the choreography and he typically likes to see the kid's natural actions the first time they hear the music before he puts together a final performance.
The concert even had a theme, celebrating Winter Solstice.
Black Hawk Elementary Music Teacher Steve Depuydt says, "Being the shortest day of the year, this is pretty important to us and we've specifically picked out this theme, because we know that this day we were going to be performing, so throughout the performance there's a thread of music that points out this Winter Solstice."
The music teacher says these programs have become a tradition and it's always a good way to welcome the holidays and start Christmas break.
