Struggling with a subject in school: Friday's Focus on Fatherhood

By  |

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN)- What if your child is struggling in a subject at school?
As a Dad, how should we approach that?

Roger Gallimore is the Executive Director of the YMCA of Rapid City and says this is an opportunity to learn and grow.

"So again as father, what you're doing is you're keeping the perspective. And that perspective is, ok, what can we learn from this? What do we need to do to help improve this?," Gallimore says.

"But above all, through all these things, don't make the child's self esteem hang in the balance as far as performance goes on this.
It's just another obstacle, another opportunity, and so how do we approach this?," Gallimore continues.

"I mean the fact is some children are gonna be good in some subjects and others not so good in other subjects. But everything through all these years, you're learning, what are those skills that best define your this child.
And sharpen those skills and then how do we learn on those things that you're not so good at?," Gallimore says.
