Spearfish spruces up the streets with crosswalk art

Spearfish locals and visitors can feel like they are walking on sunshine with new artistic crosswalks.

The crosswalks at the corner of Grant and Canyon Streets each have a unique look to them, with different colors and designs painted on the street to pave the way for pedestrians.
The project is part of a 2 year innovation grant from the Bush Foundation and the entire city of Spearfish came together to make it happen.
So far, feedback has been good.

Elizabeth Freer, Art Central Project Manager with the Matthews Opera House says, "People gather around them. We've had people come and walk just to say what you're doing is really cool. People cheering us on -- I think that some of community involvement. We've had people stop by before work to help even and they go to work covered in sunscreen."

More artistic crosswalks are expected to pop up soon near Spearfish City Park and on Black Hills State University's campus.
