South Dakota's incoming representative picks team leaders

MITCHELL, S.D. (KEVN) - South Dakota Congressman-elect Dusty Johnson announced appointments of five leadership team members.

“These individuals bring a wide variety of experience and knowledge to the table,” Johnson said in a release. “I’m incredibly excited to hit the ground running on January 3 and this team will be an integral part to ensuring I serve the people of South Dakota to the best of my abilities.”

Andrew Christianson is Johnson’s chief of staff. Christianson, from Tea, was Rep. Kristi Noem’s chief of staff.

Courtney Heitkamp of Sioux Falls is the state director and communications adviser. She also served in Noem’s office, as press secretary and political director.

The legislative director is Darren Hedlund. He comes from Sen. Mike Rounds’ office where he was a legislative assistant.

Chelsea Schull is the state operations manager. Schull will be based in Sioux Falls. She worked for California Rep. Darrell Issa as well as the National Republican Congressional Committee.

Rounding out the team is Katie Murray as West River director, operating out of Rapid City. The Rapid City native was Johnson’s West River campaign manager and also worked for Rounds.

Johnson will be sworn in Jan. 3.
