RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender read a proclamation Monday officially announcing that the Saturday after Thanksgiving will be Small Business Day.
Allender emphasized the importance of supporting local businesses in the area during the winter months as a way to help boost our economy. As fewer tourists visit the Black Hills during these months there can be a lull in business but by shopping locally the mayor says we can help make up for those slower months in the tourism industry.
"They're our neighbors. Some of the people skating behind me, their parents could be small business owners so they're who we are and we all buy things year round. Some out of necessity some out of recreation or other reasons, but when we shop locally we keep those dollars right here. It goes from my pocket into the business pocket," says Allender.
