RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Rushmore Thunder kicked off the new year by donating winter necessities to the homeless.

The Thunder was downtown draping scarves, hats, gloves and other winter items on the president's statues.

"We're just trying to help everyone out in Rapid City who is cold." said forward, Jacob Lindblom "everyone who doesn't have hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and just try to get everyone together and help out the community a little bit."

This is a common tradition in Rapid City during the colder months to make sure the homeless or people in need of winter necessities are able to stay warm.

"It feels good because the community does so much for us and it feels good to give back to them and knowing we can help them in other ways," said forward, Camden Nayman.

The Rushmore Thunder varsity boys are coming off a big win against the league leading Brookings Rangers. The Thunder will travel to Iowa this Saturday to take on the Sioux Center Storm.
