Rapid City, SD The Rapid City Rush is scoring big for our furry friends at the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

Hockey fans brought their dogs to today's game against the Colorado Eagles for Pucks and Paws.

The first-ever event raised funds for the humane society.

Organizers raffled off Players and Pets calendars and held a dog race on the ice.

All to raise awareness for the importance of adopting pets.

Kelly Weselowski, the organizer, said "All the unfortunate events that have occurred and all the rescuing out there just needs to be noticed out there. And people need help and adoption. Getting awareness out there and helping support these puppies and cats and birds and whatever. It's just a great way."

The event was started by longtime Rush player Riley Weselowski and his wife.

They adopted both of their dogs from the humane society.
