Rapid City seeks transportation feedback

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Rapid City wants to hear what your transportation needs are.

On Monday night the Rapid City Area Metropolitan Planning Organization hosted an open house about their Public Transportation Plan Update.

The plan is still in its early stages, but the city is trying to learn your transportation needs are and how they can help meet those needs.

The MPO is also seeking help from a consulting firm.

In order to keep up with transit funding, the city says regions are required to put together a coordinated human services transportation plan every five years and update that plan.

Meredith Greene, principal, Nelson/Nygaard Consulting, says, "So this is part of the overall update. It's essentially been five years. Now we're starting that update process and the update is to really get transportation needs from the perspective of older adults, individuals with disabilities, and other population groups such as low-income and minority populations."

There will be another open house on Tuesday, September 11th from 11 A.M. to one in the afternoon at the Rapid City Public Library.

To make your voice heard, you can fill out the transportation plan survey or contact the city's long range planner Kelly Brennan at 605-394-4120.
