Rapid City police roll out new mountain e-bikes
bike patrol unit now has two
The bikes give officers an edge in patrols along the city’s bike paths and park system during the warmer months. With the electric pedal assist, officers will be able to more-rapidly respond to emergencies, especially along the city’s elevated hiking and biking trails.
“We anticipate that the electric assist feature on these new bikes will be a tremendous asset to our bike patrol officers, especially when dealing with emergency situations,” says Lt. Brian Blenner, bike patrol unit commander.
The bikes were purchased with a $5,000 donation from NEW Management Company. The company’s director of operations, Todd Hollan, offered the donation with a request that it be used for the bike patrol unit.
“We are incredibly grateful for the generous donation from NWE that allowed us to purchase these bikes, and plan to use them as much as possible in order to keep our parks, hiking trails, and bike path the safest places they can be,” Blenner said.
