RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - If you wrapped up your time serving in the military, a new study says Rapid City is one of the best places for veterans to settle down.
Rapid City is ranked number nine among 20 other cities, as one of the best places to live after service, according to a study released by Navy Federal Credit Union in partnership with Sperling's BestPlaces.
Brian Stockel got out of the military a couple of years ago after serving for 20 years. He says Rapid City has been a great place for him to transition to civilian life.
"The cost of living's lower so that helps out quite a bit so my retirement pension goes further, my disability check goes further. But it's not just that. We've got a lot of really nice things to do for the veterans in the local area," Stockel said.
These rankings are based on 11 factors, including both veteran-specific metrics and general quality of life measurements. The purpose of the study is to mainly help people like Stockel make the transition to civilian life.
