RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - The Rapid City Fire Department was able to quickly knock down a coal hopper fire Tuesday morning at the GCC Dacotah cement plant in Rapid City.
Workers inside the facility were able to evacuate quickly; and there were no injuries.
Firefighters from four stations responded to the fire.
GCC Dacotah Plant Management reports that there was very minor damage to the area involved. Because the fire was in a decommissioned area of the plant there will not be an impact to plant operations or production efforts.
Why the 50-foot tall coal hopper caught fire is currently under investigation.
