Praying and walking to bring awareness to proposed gold mining in Rochford

Folks were marching along the sacred Mickelson Trail in response to proposed drilling along Rapid Creek. It is also nearby the Federal Indian Trust Land, an area cherished by many Native Americans throughout the Black Hills. Those who attended the march are against the gold mine because they believe it could pollute water sources in the area by introducing foreign substances and have a negative impact on the environment as well. They say they hope people will listen.

Robin Zephier says the purpose of the gathering was "to try to convince people, those that need to be convinced that there is more to life than just economic gain and that our people are here as the protectors of the sacred."

Many others say this walk was really a community effort and they hope people will join in what they are fighting for.
