The AARP Fraud Watch Network and the South Dakota Attorney General are working together to protect our veterans from scams that target military families.
A free fraud seminar was held at the VFW in Downtown Rapid City on Thursday.
South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley says veterans and their families do so much for our country and it's unfortunate that there are people out there that specifically target them and take advantage.
The coordinator for the AARP Information Center says it's important to equip veterans and their families with the right information to protect themselves.
AARP Information Center Coordinator DorisAnn Werlinger, says, "Too many things that have happened to different people in the state and if social security is by any means been fraud, or scammed, these people have to go through a lot of work in order to get their identification back."
The presentation taught veterans two main things to remember, that scammers are out for your money and your information, so it's important to be on high alert.
