The South Dakota Highway Patrol says a 27-year old man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Friday morning south of Long Valley. The Patrol says a Kenworth semi-truck and trailer was southbound on SD Highway 73 15 miles south of Long Valley and preparing to make a right-hand turn into a field when a Chevrolet Silverado pickup struck the rear of the trailer. The driver of the pickup had to be extricated from the vehicle and was taken to the Bennett County Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He was not wearing a seatbelt. The Patrol says a 9-year old boy who was a passenger in the pickup received minor injuries, while the 21-year old man driving the semi was not injured. The Patrol says they were both wearing seatbelts. The names of the people involved are not being released until their families can be notified.
