Mines president contacted by Trump transition team

South Dakota School of Mines and Technology president Heather Wilson has been contacted by President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team regarding a senior national security position.

Wilson, a former New Mexico congresswoman and director of the European Defense Policy and Arms Control on President George H.W. Bush’s National Security Council is a graduate of the Air Force Academy and a Rhodes Scholar.

A Republican, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1998 to 2009 and was defeated in a 2008 bid for the U.S. Senate.

In a statement from the School of Mines, communications director Fran LeFort wrote, “President Wilson was contacted by the President-elect’s transition team late Friday afternoon. They asked her to come to New York (today) to talk to them about a senior national security position. She will have no further comment at this time.”

It was first reported by Serafin Gomez of Fox News that Wilson is being considered for the position of National Intelligence director.
