In the beginning of April we introduced you to local author James Janis as he got ready for the release of his book "The Chair is not me"

And ton April 20th it was the time for the book reveal,

it was a standing room only in the cafe of Books A Million. The purpose of the book is to raise awareness about people who live with diverse abilities.

JJ, who himself is in a wheelchair had help with the book from some local artists from the Suzie Cappa Art Center.

The book has touched many in the community who have known JJ since the beginning and serves as a learning experience for all

Janet and Ron Pickering say, ' five years ago was about the chair is not me, and as a teacher that really spoke to me, it just really touched my heart to see how he felt then he told us his life story of how he wasn't expected to live when he was born and shared so much of his life with us over the years. We've really encouraged him. One of the points you can notice is the great diversity in this room. There is a little bit of everybody from all walks of life that can listen to this and see it and they see a window into JJ's life, but also a window into their life that has been there at one point or another.'

Over 50 copies of the book were sold on the first night. If you are interested in picking up a copy they will be available at the Suzie Cappa Art Center in downtown Rapid City.
